Cisco Acquires Synata To Improve Spark Platform

Cisco has completed the acqusition of Synata to bring advanced search to Spark platform.

A couple of days ago, Cisco Systems, Inc. announced that it has completed the acquisition of a privately held search startup Synata. The services of Synata allow users to freely search on on-premise or on cloud simultaneously. The networking giant recently launched an interactive yet simple and secure platform, which allowed the employees of the firm to collaborate with each other. The platform was known as Cisco Spark Communications platform, which was more of a virtual conference room established for the teams to participate in technical discussions.
With this acquisition, the tech firm will be deeply integrating the technology of Synata i.e. advanced search option to its communications platform. Cisco Systems has not yet disclosed the financial negotiations of this deal. Usually it reveals the price at which the deal was agreed instead the company planned to not reveal because it was agreed under $100 million. The Senior Vice President and General Manager at Cisco, Rowan Trollope, wrote in a blog post that Synata is an excellent acquisition for the firm as the company was in search for an advanced search on its platform for quite a long time now.
Everyone close to Cisco saw the deal coming as the company was unable to come up with its own search option. In short, with this deal being agreed, Synata gives an extra spark to Cisco, which it previously lacked.
Cisco Spark could do it all from solving to index, content, and deliver it to users, all it lacked was the search option. With Synata, the company can search throughout its repositories, which it previously could not do. Rowan Trollope said in an interview to Tech Crunch, “It gives us the ability to search indexed third party content sources with a single pane of glass. We want to have incredible search. We want to improve the search we have today. The Synata guys have the technology to help us do that.”
Apart from enhanced search experience, Synata will give graph search to Cisco’s Spark as well. Graphs are valuable to any communication platform because it gives the authority to a company to search the index and find out about the connections being made with one another on the platform. Rob Salvagno who is the head of corporate development and Cisco investments stated, “Their search technology will also work within Cisco Spark’s unique approach to end-to-end encryption in the cloud, which makes them a great fit for our team. Like us, they prioritize cloud development that allows customers to have privacy and control of their data at all times.”
