Facebook Myanmar Userbase

The American social network operator  has millions of users in Myanmar, which tells us about its popularity in the region..

Over the last few years, Facebook’s user growth in Myanmar has been impressive. During those years, the website worked as national news outlet and emergency relief coordinator – but through it the fangs of cyber bulling and privacy invasion has been injected into the region.
The website holds a large number of personal details, yet users might not be aware about the US social networking giant’s presence in the country, as the website doesn’t publicize its statistics regarding its Myanmar users.

The Myanmar Times got assistance from Yangoon based Amara Digital Marketing Agency –an organization which keeps the details of site obtained from Facebook’s business manager –to better understand the social network platform. The data received from the same firm declared the number of active monthly users of Myanmar to be over 9.7 million by mid of May. This indicates that close to 19% of the country’s population is using social networking site.

According to agency’s head of operations, Ma Chan Myae Khine, although the number of profiles has increased by thrice or four times however there are several accounts which are either locked or inactive. She added that within the time frame of less than 12 months, the site’s user base has grown by twice. Last year, by mid-July, the total monthly active users in Myanmar was totaled 4.7 million.

Almost 90% of Facebook users are located in country’s two major cities Mandalay and Yangoon, and their nearby regions. But in an upset Chan finds difficult to elaborate upon, Mandalay has eclipsed the commercial capital of the city, Yango, as far as Facebook users are concerned. Out of the cumulative 9.7 million active monthly users, around 41% are inside the40 km radius of Yangon compared to 47% around Mandalay.

Chan views a relationship between the nation’s latest telecom rollouts and grown Facebook usage. She states that, for example in the state of Kayah there’s an increase in users on the social networking website when a telecommunication service provider launches there. Ma stated that Facebook can prove to be unsafe for users who are not digital literate- particularly those from rural regions. But she also stated the website can boost income as well as knowledge.

Men surpass women on the platform by almost 2-to-1, the data demonstrated. While over 6.2 million men in Myanmar were active on the website, the number of women who had logged upon on the platform was less than 3.5 m. In the country, despite of making up the majority of the population, ladies are 30% less probably to have a cellular phone, as reported by The Myanmar Times.

Facebook Wishes To Integrate Advertisements In Messenger

Facebook Messenger might feature advertisements in Q2FY16.

A document which was leaked belonging to Facebook Inc. which was sent to some of the big advertisement giant reveals that the company has plans to come up with ads in Messenger during the second quarter of the fiscal year of 2016.
The document which has been obtained by TechCrunch was kept confidential to keep its sources safe claims that the businesses will now be able to send their advertisements in the form of messages to those who initially contacted the company via messages. To gear up for the service, the social media giant is recommending all the businesses to start chat threads with their clients so that they can send targeted ads once the service is officially launched.
According to the document, the company has also launched a URL that will open a thread instantly with a business. The tech giant has authorized the existence of a URL short link which clearly indicates that the leaked document is credible.
When it comes to the advertisements on Messenger, Facebook acknowledged TechCrunch, “We don’t comment on rumor or speculation. That said, our aim with Messenger is to create a high quality, engaging experience for 800 million people around the world, and that includes ensuring people do not experience unwanted messages of any type.” This message clearly indicates that Facebook users need not be worried since they are coming up with ads but these ads will not in any way be annoying or nagging.
Messenger has become one of the fastest evolving and most renowned services by the company with 800 million individuals on board each month. However, this is the first time; FB has decided to monetize this platform.
The good thing is that the company will not allow the brands to send the ads via messages to just everyone on the basis of likes on the Page. Thus, all those who have communicated with a business voluntarily will be sent the ad. So this will minimize the chances of spam and will not be annoying. As of now, all the messages that come are from friends so the company will try is best to save the high signal to nose ratio with certain restriction while advertising.
This news which has surfaced is a contradiction to what Mr. Zuckerberg initially said to satisfy users on WhatsApp which was acquired in FY14.  During an analyst call, “I don’t personally think ads are the right way to monetize messaging.” Other than that the CEO of WhatsApp, Mr. Jan Koum highlighted through a blog post back in 2012 that, “Advertising isn’t just the disruption of aesthetics, the insults to your intelligence and the interruption of your train of thought,” along with that it is a mere waste of engineering resources.
Hence in a nutshell, Facebook is coming up with another intriguing feature for advertisers that will result in targeted ads that can eventually bolster revenues for them. The idea is appealing however, the company needs to make sure that advertisers don’t spam consumer inboxes.

Facebook Might Fall Down As Yahoo! Did

Social media networking platforms are on the rise in today's era. Either there is a new entry in the market or the existing ones over takes other companies. Facebook is one of the most used social media networking platform which is widely used all across the globe. However, Facebook has the same fame and platform which Yahoo! once had. Yahoo! was but it lost everything as it continued its journey in the modern era. At its prime, Yahoo! had a market capitalization of over $128 billion but it failed to sustain its market position and the company's market capitalization now is only $10 billion or below.
According to him, Facebook earns revenue the same way Yahoo! did. Their major chunk of revenues come from the advertising companies that bought TV and magazine ads. According to Business Insider, "They [advertisement companies] were paying inordinate sums to become Yahoo's official partners in various sectors, from greeting cards to pet stores to travel."
It is believed that Yahoo! as well as Facebook is spending money on such ads from investments made by venture capitalist. However, it was a matter of time when the craze for venture capital funding as it ended quite abruptly.
Maybe that is the reason why the CEO of Snapchat predicts that the future of Facebook might not be as good as everyone believes!
Also hackers have only one thing on their mind these days which is the vulnerability of Facebook's source code. This is an imminent threat to the integrity of the social media platform of the company. The engineers at Facebook, made a massive blunder by dumping data in Pastebin which contains information of Facebook's digital world. Previously as well the company had paved way for external sources to make its way to the source code of Facebook.
It does not require much effort to make your way to the source code of the company as various bits and pieces of information regarding it are available on Pastebin. If these pieces of data are compiled in a more efficient manner then one can easily hack the company's source code. Not only can one find names, various commands but also valuable information is scattered haphazard manner on this platform. This information on its own does not pose a threat on this stage but in extreme cases this data can completely rupture the social media site.
The company has established a very strong firewall system but if anybody succeeds to seep in Facebook's servers then the repercussions can be quite extreme. This also raises another question, as data is an extremely precious commodity then why Facebook has not sanitized it efficiently or does not have a strong authentication system.
All this poses a threat on long term basis and Facebook needs to act before its too late.
